DRIVER FACES 3 CHARGES
A Union County warrant has been issued for the arrest of Joey Hurst, 26.
Hurst will be charged with three counts stemming from his flight from police early on the morning of Jan. 17.
He was flown to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital after the vehicle he was driving crashed outside La Grande. He was treated at the hospital and released. He has not been jailed since.
Hurst is accused of taking a vehicle in La Grande and then, when spotted by police, fleeing out of town. His flight ended along Booth Lane just before 2 a.m. when the car sheered off a power pole, overturned and crashed in a field.
The Union County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday the warrant would charge Hurst with attempted first-degree assault, attempting to elude police using a vehicle and with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
At OHSU, Hurst was treated for a lacerated thumb, according to an OHSU spokesman.
