DYKES WON'T SEEK LA GRANDE COUNCIL SEAT
Sharon Dykes has withdrawn from the race for a seat on the La Grande City Council.
The owner of Good Things sent a letter of withdrawal to the city Tuesday, indicating she was moving outside the city limits, which would make her ineligible to serve.
Her name will not appear on the ballot for the Position 7 slot, now filled by Steve Clements. The deadline for withdrawing is Friday, said City Recorder Sandy Lund. Names of those who have filed cannot be withheld from the printed ballot after that date, Lund said.
Dykes was out of town and unavailable for comment Tuesday. A "for sale" sign remained in the front yard of her La Grande home.
Dykes' withdrawal leaves Clements unopposed, but there will be three contested races in the Nov. 5 election.
Bill Hays, Dan Stark and Tim Hoffnagle are seeking one seat; incumbent Joel Goldstein is opposed by Mary Ann Miesner; and Gary Lillard faces Cory Larvik in the other race.
