La Grande police are investigating a series of car prowls that occurred on La Grande’s east side either Saturday night and Sunday morning, including one in which a firearm was reported stolen.
According to police reports, a man in the 200 block of 18th Street requested officer contact Sunday regarding the theft of a gun from his vehicle.
Also on Sunday, dispatch received five reports of car prowls in the 2400 block of Century Loop, a call about an unauthorized entry into a vehicle in the 300 block of 20th Street, and still another at an address in the 2200 block of Terra Lea Court. Though things have been relatively quiet lately, La Grande has been plagued by periodic spates of car prowls in recent months. Union County District Attorney Tim Thompson has expressed special concern about guns being stolen from vehicles and falling into the hands of drug dealers and other criminals. Residents are urged to remove valuables from their vehicles, and to keep their vehicles locked. Anyone with information about the Memorial Day weekend car prowls should call the La Grande Police Department at 541-963-1017. |
