Dr. Tristin Mock, M.D., has joined the Center for Human Development Inc. as an AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) member. She will spend the next year working with the public health team to implement social marketing best practices. Her focus areas will be under-immunized 2-year-olds, women in need and eligible for family planning services and the general population at risk for communicable diseases such as West Nile virus and novel influenza viruses, like swine flu. Mock moved to La Grande last year and established Golden Leaf Clinic. As a physician and life-long Oregonian, she hopes to use her knowledge of rural Oregon to improve health care in Union County.VISTA was established more than 40 years ago as an anti-poverty program. It is often compared to the Peace Corps, except its members serve in America. More than 170,000 VISTAs have served since 1965. For more information on AmeriCorps, including the VISTA program, visit www.americorps.gov. CHD provides public health services in Union county including immunizations and family planning services. CHD is currently hosting two VISTAs, Mock in public health and Billie-Jo Craigmile in behavioral health. To learn more about the services that CHD offers visit www.chdinc.org. |
