ENTERPRISE PRINCIPAL TAKES JOB IN MOUNT ANGEL

Enterprise Elementary School Principal Dave Carlson is bound for Mount Angel.

Carlson has been named the new principal at Mount Angel Middle School in the Willamette Valley.

"It is a great opportunity for me and my family,'' Carlson said.

Carlson is completing his second year as Enterprise Elementary School principal. The school serves 300 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Mount Angel Middle School has 170 students in grades 6-8.

Carlson said he is looking forward to working with middle school-age youths.

"I like this age group and the activities that go along with it,'' he said, adding that he'll enjoy getting students involved in athletics, academic competitions and social activities like dances.

Carlson's move throws a twist into the Enterprise School Board's plans for addressing the loss of Superintendent Bill Eggers.

Eggers will resign at the end of the school year to move back to the Midwest to be with his family.

The board had planned to move Carlson to the principal's position at Enterprise High School next year. Current Principal Brad Royse would then become superintendent and also serve as the grade school principal.

Eggers said that Royse will still serve as superintendent and grade school principal. Another person will be hired to become the high school's principal.

Eggers said that Carlson will be missed.

"He is a terrific administrator. We are sad to lose him,'' the superintendent said.

Eggers said that Carlson is a consensus builder and is student-centered.

Carlson has never lived in the Willamette Valley but his wife Donna, who is from Albany, has close ties to the area.

He added that his wife, also an educator, is excited about the greater teaching opportunities she will have in Western Oregon. Donna Carlson presently works for Wallowa's Head Start program and the Wallowa County Education Service District.

Dave Carlson came to Enterprise two years ago after working in the Milton-Freewater School District as a media and technology specialist.
