ENTERPRISE TO CELEBRATE WINTERFEST

By Gary Fletcher

Observer Staff Writer

ENTERPRISE Enterprise merchants will celebrate their annual Winterfest this weekend with a bazaar, drawings and a parade.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday will be the Wallowa County Handcrafters Guild Bazaar at Cloverleaf Hall.

Thirty-four booths will feature handcrafted, one-of-a-kind products. New craftsmen and new products will be featured this year. The bazaar has been an early December tradition for 20 years.

In addition to celebrating the Christmas season, the Sept. 11 events and the United States will also be recognized with red, white and blue products and decorations. Red, white and blue stars decorating the Christmas tree may be purchased with a donation to the food bank and the Elks Christmas Basket program.

Fridays and Saturdays lunch and Saturdays dinner at the bazaar will be prepared by Marvel Eaves. The $5 lunches begin at 11 a.m. and the $6 dinner will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Mrs. Santa will be there photographing people with Santa Claus for $1.

There also will be drawings for $5 and $10 of script.

Also starting at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday will be Santa Paws at the Enterprise Flower Shop. Families, individuals and their pets can get their photos taken with Santa Claus.

In light of this years World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks, candlelight services will be held at Warde Park and the Courthouse Gazebo, both on Main Street, at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Free candles will be available at both locations and from various merchants.

The guilders bazaar closes at 7 p.m. Friday but downtown stores will remain open until 8 p.m. Drawings for merchandise and gift certificates will be held at Warde Park at 8:15 p.m.

A Christmas bus tour from La Grande is expected to arrive at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The free Grinch Christmas movie for children will start at 1 p.m. at the OK Theatre. At 2:45 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive on a fire truck to greet the children departing the movie.

A live Nativity scene with carolers is planned from 3:15 to 5 p.m. at Warde Park.

A tractor lighting contest and parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

A miniature art exhibit is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at the new Back Fence gallery on Main Street north of the courthouse.

Another new twist this year is an auction of custom-designed Christmas wreaths. Various merchants have custom-decorated 20-inch wreaths that are on display in each store.

Shoppers are invited to write their bid on the sheet by each wreath. Bids close at noon Monday.
