Payback was on the minds of the Eastern Oregon softball players Tuesday against the Walla Walla Wolves after a 3-2 loss back in March.
Not only did the Mountaineers (12-14) pick up a 13-0 and 10-0 non-conference sweep Tuesday, they set a team record for triples in a game (four in the first game) and for a doubleheader (five).
"We did a good job executing today," Eastern coach Anji Weissenfluh said.
Adrienne Fullmer was 4-for-5, with two triples and a double. Tonilynn Reardon went 3-for-7, with a triple and six RBIs. Beth Hull and Missy Bonanno each had a triple.
Eastern had eight runs after the first inning in the first game and was in control all afternoon.
The Mountaineers will be facing tougher pitchers in the upcoming weeks, and Weissenfluh hopes the team has the confidence to hit like it did against the Wolves.
In the first game, Jayne-Leigh Thomas allowed two hits, one walk and struck out four.
Thomas also got her first collegiate RBI with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth of the second game. Thomas had only one career at-bat before that.
In the second game, Kathy Bielemeier also pitched a two-hitter, giving up one walk and struck out four.
Eastern will head back into Cascade Collegiate Conference play with important doubleheaders Saturday at Southern Oregon and Sunday at Oregon Tech.
Eastern is 1-2 against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech so far.
Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech hold the top two spots, while Eastern sits in third.
"I feel we're fine," Weissenfluh said.
The top two teams get an automatic berth to the NAIA Region 1 Tournament, while the third-place team has a playoff game.
The team has to work on consistency and will play the playoff game if it has to, Weissenfluh said.
