By The Observer

A free service from students at Eastern Oregon University is again being offered to area businesses seeking marketing and management advice.

The service is being provided by EOUs Students In Free Enterprise team.

The team is made up of a diverse group of students from all disciplines who take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations. The students focus on using their knowledge to better the community through free enterprise educational outreach projects.

The Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team already has a number of public service projects set up. For example, its members will be presenting a credit card reality program to students during the week of Nov. 11-17. SIFE members will make presentations in an undergraduate business class at EOU about credit cards and how to use them properly.

SIFE students are also helping set up an Open Mike night at EOU on Nov. 14. Students with all types of talent will be able to perform.

The SIFE team is being led this year by President Andy Tran. Its co-vice presidents are Jake Rankin and Andrew Baldwin.

EOU business professor Ted Atkinson is the advisor of EOUs SIFE team. Atkinson earlier won the Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow award in recognition of his leadership and support of the SIFE program at EOU.

In the spring, EOUs Students In Free Enterprise team will compete in the regional SIFE championships. Each teams 24-minute multimedia presentation will be judged by a panel of business leaders. The panel will determine how well the students taught others about the principles of free enterprise.

Students In Free Enterprise was founded in 1975. There are now SIFE chapters active on more than 1,000 college and university campuses in 25 countries. SIFE is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education.

Anyone interested in receiving help from EOUs SIFE program should call Ted Atkinson at 962-3738 or e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
