Elgin Community Center auction called success
|
ELGIN — The Friends of the Elgin Community Center reported another successful fundraising auction April 19. “It went very well,” said co-chair of the Friends of the Elgin Community Center Scott Ludwig. “We had a crowd of about 60 people and raised $6,500 after all the expenses were paid.” Contributing to their success were generous donors from throughout the county. We had about 250 donors this year,” associate auction organizer Elma Jean Wilhelm said. “We had different volunteers collecting donations from Elgin, throughout the valley and in La Grande.” The Friends of the Elgin Community Center also had added help in advertising the event this year that contributed to the auction’s success. “We were very pleased to have the help of the Extension study group here who called people in Elgin and reminded them of the auction and asked if they would like to contribute some baked goods to sell at it. Most people were very receptive,” said Wilhelm. The group meets at the Community Center and Wilhelm approached them for their help, she said. This is the first time an outside organization has taken over the phone advertising campaign for the Friends of the Elgin Community Center, Wilhelm added. Ludwig said that they have several maintenance and improvement projects at the center that they are looking at now to see where the money could be used. He gratefully acknowledged that generous donors and buyers made this possible. “We would like to thank all our donors for their help." |
