Senior Hayden Bershenyi was recently selected as the Elgin Lions’ Student of the Month.

Bershenyi has been a student in the Elgin district for six years. Prior to that, he attended school in Glenwood Springs, Colo. Speaking of Union County, Bershenyi said he liked the rural area and the woods.

“I like the quiet,” he said, “and I like how everybody knows each other.”

Bershenyi’s love of the area fits his favorite activities including riding horses, hunting, and riding four-wheelers.

“I like doing agricultural types of things,” Bershenyi said, “and I might go into the field of agriculture, but I’m kind of interested in law, too.”

Bershenyi has been on the school honor roll and carries a 3.97 GPA. Meanwhile, he plays football and is co-captain of the team. He is in the FFA and a member of the National Honor Society. Bershenyi is also class president for the seniors. He lists physics as his favorite class, but considers himself accomplished in metal shop.

For his senior project, Bershenyi plans to job shadow Brent Carroll at the Elgin schools, with plans of going to Colorado School of Mines or the University of Colorado. He is the son of James and Keaver Bershenyi of Elgin.
