ELGIN — The Brunswick Tavern and Café has a new owner, Brenda Reid, who will host a grand re-opening at the establishment Saturday.

As sole proprietor of the business, Reid introduced herself to the city council last Tuesday, requesting a liquor license, which the council readily approved. Reid has been a resident of Elgin since April 1997, moving here from Las Vegas.

She has gained her experience in the food service industry from past employers, including Palermo’s, Jefferson Street Depot, Botz’s and the Brunswick.

The business is a family investment, said Reid’s father, Noble Reid. Noble retired from construction in Las Vegas and along with his wife, Barbara, followed their daughter to Elgin. Their son, Russ Reid, will also be involved with the business managing the tavern.

Besides family, Brenda Reid said that she employs three cooks in the kitchen during the week.

The public is invited to meet the Reid family at the grand re-opening and enjoy their specials.

“It’s going to be a home-away-from-home for the locals again,” said Brenda. “It’s going to be a comfy, homey atmosphere to relax with your family. We have a Wii system in the bar and Direct TV. I’m going to be planning some movie nights with videos and popcorn— make it real fun.”

Reid will be serving her specials in the restaurant between 5 and 9 p.m., Saturday and looks forward to getting acquainted with the public.
