FIVE SEEK APPOINTMENT TO COUNCIL
There is no shortage of applicants seeking to fill Doug Winns position on the La Grande City Council.
When the clock struck 5 Wednesday afternoon, five La Grande residents had turned in applications to serve the rest of the year on the city council.
Candidates include former mayor Mark Davidson, who owns a machine shop; insurance agent Art Rhodes; restaurant owner Sandy Sorrels; Dan Stark with Regional Services Institute; and Fred Thornton, who works for Grande Ronde Hospital.
Winn resigned when he moved outside the city. A reception for him is set for 5 p.m. today at City Hall.
According to Sandy Lund at City Hall, two other applications were taken out but were not returned by Wednesdays deadline.
The council will appoint Winns replacement May 1.
