Former Interim La Grande School District Superintendent Irv Nikolai, who was arrested Friday on four counts of first-degree sex abuse, posted bail and was released from jail Tuesday night. Nikolai had been lodged in the Union County Correctional Facility since Friday morning. He was released after someone in Washington County posted $100,000 bail for him, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The amount is 10 percent of the $1 million bail set by a judge in Washington County. Nikolai, 71, resigned as La Grande’s interim superintendent Friday after being arrested on charges of four counts of sex abuse of a child. The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred April 19 at a birthday party in a north Hillsboro home. A Washington County grand jury, following an investigation, handed down an indictment for Nikolai’s arrest. Nikolai was arrested in his office Friday morning by La Grande Police officers, a Hillsboro detective and an FBI agent. |
