HAND SEVERED IN MILL MISHAP

WALLOWA — An Enterprise man is in fair condition in a Portland hospital after his hand was cut off Tuesday in a saw at Wallowa Forest Products.

Phillip Lindsley, 28, of Enterprise, is at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital where the blood vessels of his hand were reattached in a surgery that lasted until about 2 a.m. Wednesday, a relative reported. Circulation was reported to have been restored to his fingers.

The Wednesday morning surgery was but the first of several. Lindsley is expected to be hospitalized at least five days, the relative said, and undergo at least two more surgeries to reattach ligaments and nerves of his left hand.

The right-handed Lindsley was thought to be doing "OK," according to reports from Lindsley's parents who traveled from Enterprise to be with him, the relative said.

Although Lindsley was being stabilized at Wallowa Memorial Hospital less than 20 minutes after the accident, his trip to Portland was somewhat delayed when a thunderstorm at Joseph Airport prevented the air ambulance from

landing.

Because of the storm, an ambulance drove the injured man to the Union County Airport, where he met the plane.

It was thought that one thing in Lindsley's favor was that the saw made a straight, smooth cut which may have limited the bleeding.
