HORSE CREEK NEARLY CONTAINED
ENTERPRISE Cooler weather has stopped the spread of the Horse Creek Fire near Imnaha. Four crews were taken off the fire Wednesday and sent to other blazes.
The 16,854-acre fire, now 75 percent contained, is expected to be fully contained by Friday, U.S. Forest Service information officer Susan Stevens said.
Hat Point Road will remain closed.
On Wednesday two spot fires escaped since the latest fireline was completed from Bear Flats to Horse Creek. Both jumps were kept in check and are being mopped up. The backburn operation was still being conducted between the fire line and the fire.
Lightning started the Horse Creek Fire Aug. 15 about seven miles northeast of Imnaha. The fire came within a mile of town. The remaining active blaze is in the southeast corner of the fire, several miles southeast of the small town.
A total of 390 people remain on the fire.
