Harvest Dessert: Have your cake and eat it too

Community members are invited to join Greenwood Elementary School staff and students for a fundraiser, Harvest Dessert Auction and Greenwood Idol Season 2, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium.

“We will be auctioning off homemade, decorated cakes made by staff, parents and students,” PTS President Judy Lucius said. “We will also sell cupcakes.”

In addition, the evening will include performances by the Greenwood staff. Staff will impersonate The Village People, Nancy Sinatra & Friends, The Supremes and Sonny & Cher.

“This should be a fun evening with special cakes to bid on and purchase and a great show,” said Principal Mike Gregory.

Greenwood Elementary is off to a strong start this fall with 38 professional teachers and staff, 270 students enrolled in grades 1 through 5, and an enthusiastic family turn-out at the recent open house.

Greenwood is supported by an active PTS group already at work on future events such as a Festival of Trees planned for Dec. 5, cookie dough sales occurring in February, the annual “Giant” Carnival scheduled for April 17 and Penny Wars planned for May.

Families interested in getting involved should attend meetings the third Tuesday of each month or contact Judy Lucius for more information at 541-963-6756 or 541-805-4018.

Greenwood Elementary School, one of three elementary schools in La Grande, serves students and families of students in grades 1 through 5.

The school says it is dedicated to developing lifelong learners who are responsible for being safe, kind, respectful and responsible.
