Hurricane Creek Fire keeps crews busy
Fire officials estimate Wallowa County blaze to be several hundred acres
ENTERPRISE — After a week of maintaining a perimeter of roughly 120 acres, high winds pushed the Hurricane Creek Fire northward into heavily forested Dunn Creek. At press time there was no estimate of total acreage burned, but fire officials estimate it to be at several hundred acres.
The Hurricane Creek Fire is approximately four miles southwest of Joseph in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
Mark Moeller, Wallowa North Zone assistant fire management officer, said when he flew over the fire Sunday, the fire line on the northern flank along Dunn Creek was still holding and “cold” except for one little spot northeast of the containment perimeter.
“There was fire to the south and southeast,” he said. “We fully expected when we had the right weather one day it would make a hard run in Dunn Creek.”
