Island City council votes for marijuana moratorium
Medical marijuana dispensaries will not be allowed in Island City for at least a year.
Island City's City Council voted Monday night to place a one-year moratorium on allowing the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. The moratorium will be in place through May 2015.
The city council voted unanimously for the moratorium at the recommendation of Mayor Dale De Long. He said that having a moratorium in place will give the city council flexibility as the state decides how it will implement a new law that will allow the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon.
De Long noted that the city council will have the option of rescinding or extending the moratorium if it wants to re-evaluate it.
