Josephy Center names new executive director

JOSEPH — Cheryl North Coughlan has been named the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture executive director.

Coughlan, a local photographer, has volunteered extensively for the Josephy Center and throughout the community while continuing to develop her own artistic talents. Her photography was recently featured in the Josephy Center’s popular Hang ’em High Exhibit.

She brings a wealth of organizational and artistic skills to the job. In addition to serving the State of Oregon for 10 years as a court clerk, she and her husband, Brian, own a business.

“We are all so pleased that Cheryl has accepted the position of executive director, “ said Board Chair Nancy Knoble. “We were looking for someone who had not only the right experience and skills, but who also seemed a good fit for the organization and its goals and who was passionate about the arts and the culture of Wallowa County, and Cheryl brings so much to the table. Cheryl was a standout in a remarkably strong field of candidates.”

Coughlan will step into the position in early September.  When asked about her new job, Coughlan said, “This is a rare and remarkable experience for me. I hope to not only enhance the Josephy Center’s image as a vibrant community arts center, but also to help bring to fruition strategic plans for fundraising efforts that will provide a solid financial future for the Center.”

Coughlan replaces Amy Zahm, who has served as interim executive director since June.

“I’m so pleased that the board chose Cheryl to fill the director position,” Zahm said. “I think her blend of enthusiasm, creativity, passion and organization are just what the center needs to continue to thrive.”

Zahm will stay on with the Josephy Center in the role of part-time development director.

For more information on the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture or upcoming exhibits and events, contact Zahm at 541-432-0505 or visit www.josephy.org.
