A La Grande man was charged Tuesday with criminally negligent homicide in connection with the death of a man in Malheur County. Justin E. Moore, 34, was lodged at the Union County Correctional Facility when he was charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of a man in Jordan Valley. “He was here on a probation sanction and interestingly enough we were ready to cut him loose,” said Capt. Craig Ward of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. “Malheur County asked us to hold him, but we couldn’t without cause. We got a faxed copy of the warrant just in the nick of time.” Moore was arrested July 2 by Malheur County authorities on a Union County warrant charging probation violation. Malheur County Sheriff Andy Bentz said at the time Moore was a “person of interest” in the death of 40-year--old John Levanger. Levanger was found injured outside the Jordan Valley Bar and Cafe about 2 a.m. June 28. He was taken to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, where he died July 2. Moore was transported to Malheur County today, Ward said. |
