LIGHTNING SPARKS FIRES
Lightning ignited a small fire on Mount Emily Tuesday afternoon, but crews were dispatched and the fire was in the mop-up stage this morning.
Gayle Lee, spokeswoman for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, said some of the firefighters were sent home about 2 a.m., but others will remain at least through today.
A small fire about 12 miles upriver from Imnaha also started Tuesday from lightning. Crews have been sent to the area.
The Monument Fire, burning near Unity, was 40 percent contained this morning. Weather conditions were favorable Tuesday and additional containment lines were built.
Today, 1,359 people are assigned to the fire, supported by nine helicopters, 24 engines, 14 dozers and 13 water tenders.
