LIGHTNING ZAPS POWER COUNTYWIDE
All of Union County went dark Sunday afternoon when lightning struck a power line serving the Ladd Creek Substation.
The electricity went off at 4:45 p.m. and was restored to the La Grande and Elgin areas by 5:25. The lights went back on In Union and Cove at 5:45 p.m.
According to Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative, there were scattered outages throughout the Grande Ronde Valley Sunday. All power was restored by about 11 p.m.
Sunday's lightning storm apparently did not cause any fires in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. No new fires were reported this morning. A spokeswoman for the forest said rain accompanied the storm, which often lessens the fire risk.
