By The Observer
Tom Goodall, an Imbler School Board member and Boise Cascades chief forester for the northeast Oregon region, died Friday in Hailey, Idaho, while participating in a relay run. He was 49.
Goodall, who had worked for Boise for 23 years including the last 10 in La Grande, had been named chief forester about two months ago, said Bruce Cartmel, Northeast Oregon region manager for Boise Cascade. Before that, Goodall was logging manager.
Goodall worked in various position with Boise in Idaho after being hired in 1978, Cartmel said.
Cartmel said Goodall was participating in a relay race from the Stanley Basin to Boise.
He suffered some pain while running, stopped and collapsed. His support wagon crew was not able to revive him, Cartmel said.
Goodall, who lived in Summerville, had served on the Imbler School Board for six years.
He is survived by his wife, Suzy; two sons, Nathan and Grady; and a daughter, Carson.
The funeral will be held Thursday.
He was a wonderful man, pleasant, easy to work with. Its a heck of a loss, Cartmel said.
