PUTTING FOR CHARITY: Golfers brave the Grande Ronde Valley’s fickle spring weather to raise money for the Lions May 2 at Buffalo Peak Golf Course in Union. Submitted photo The La Grande Lions Club held its annual golf tournament fundraiser May 2.
Twenty-seven golfers withstood heavy downpours during the morning and early afternoon before the sun broke through the clouds.
But that didn't dampen the spirits of the golfers. The weather
definitely played a part in the turn-out compared to previous years,
but the Lions were still able to raise $3,000 for sight and hearing and
other community projects.
Lion Terry Hughes, co-chair of the fundraiser, said the golfers who participated and tee sponsors are to be commended for their efforts in raising funds for the club.
The winners of the tourney were:
• Low Gross, team of Craig Braseth, Greg Ammer and Howard Cantrell
• Low Net, team of Carol Tate, Gary Tate, Luke Myers and Fred Myers
• Putting Contest, Luke Myers.
There continues to be two raffle drawings. One is for a Bridgestone J33 driver valued at $400, plus a round of golf at Buffalo Peak.
The second drawing is for a night’s stay and round of golf for two at Wildhorse Casino and Resort valued at $250.
Call Lion Terry Hughes at 963-8611 or stop by Terry Hughes Insurance at 1912 Fourth St., Suite 200 in
La Grande to purchase tickets. The winning tickets will be drawn on June 15.
