South County Health District board meets
UNION — The South County Health District will conduct its regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Family Health Center. The public is welcome to attend.
Christmas Lighting Contest seeks entries
The Observer and Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative are sponsoring the 2014 Christmas Lighting Contest.
The contest is open to residential and business outdoor lighting displays.
Call for entries ads will publish in The Observer and on each newspaper website and facebook page beginning Monday with instructions to email or bring in a photo and entry form no later than noon Dec. 17.
This year, winners will be judged by the public. Votes for best Christmas lighting display will be accepted via newspaper ballot or Facebook vote through 10 a.m. Dec. 23.
Winning entries will be featured in the Christmas editions of The Observer on Dec. 24.
Men’s breakfast served up Saturday
COVE — The Cove United Methodist Church men’s breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Old Country Christmas Bazaar set
Delta Nu Sorority will hold its Old Country Christmas Bazaar at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Perry Schoolhouse. The event will include soup for lunch, decorated Christmas trees, candy, cookies, cakes, pies and pictures with Santa.
Cove Library sets holiday open house
COVE — The Cove Library invites the public to a holiday open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Homemade refreshments will be available.
Extension, fair board set open house
ENTERPRISE — Everyone is invited to join the OSU-Wallowa County Extension Service and the Wallowa County Fair Board for their holiday open house from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Extension Service office, 668 N.W. First St., Enterprise.
Cookies, coffee and tea will be provided.
As part of the festivities, there will also be an ugly sweater contest, so people are encouraged to wear their ugliest holiday sweater.

Open house features pictures with Santa
Studio Pink’s Holiday Open House will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday featuring photos with Santa.
The event features hot cocoa and local vendors offering stocking stuffers. Find Studio Pink at 1120 Adams Ave.
FBLA plays host to holiday bazaar
La Grande FBLA is hosting a holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the high school commons.
Along with local vendors, La Grande’s FBLA, FFA, the welding class, the spirit squad, the dance team and the baseball team will be participating in the fundraiser. FBLA will be sponsoring a “Cookie Corner,” where people can select a dozen cookies of their choice for $4.
Items for sale include cookbooks, fresh wreaths, jewelry, cutlery, baked goods, handmade items, Scentsy candles, mistletoe, crafts, ornaments, scarfs, Watkins products, coffee mugs, Pampered Chef, oranges and grapefruit.
Planning Commission meets Tuesday
The Planning Commission will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday at council chambers at La Grande City Hall, 1000 Adams Ave.
Conditional use permits for Grande Ronde Hospital and Hot Lake are on the agenda.
Landmarks Commission meets
The La Grande Landmarks Commission will meet immediately following the Planning Commission Tuesday at City Hall council chambers.
Nature’s Pantry’s new store front is on the agenda.
Church plays host to Holiday Bazaar
Faith Lutheran Church, corner of 12th and Gekeler, will have its annual Holiday Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with crafts and foods.
Drink coffee, help kids club
The La Grande Dutch Bros. Coffee shop, 2003 Q Ave., will donate proceeds Friday to the La Grande Optimist Kids Club.
It’s Dutch Bros. annual Buck for Kids Day, when all 213 locations in seven states donate drink proceeds to youth programs selected by local owner-operators.
Last year’s Buck for Kids Day raised $500 for the local kids club and $139,000 for children’s causes company wide.
Child care tax class scheduled Tuesday
A class, Tax Planning for your Child Care Business, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Child Care Resource & Referral classroom (employment office), 1901 Adams Ave.

Trombone group plays for food bank
The Northeast Oregon Trombone Group will play for food (the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Bank) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Safeway.
Copies of the food bank’s wish list will be made available to shoppers.
Conservation district meets Wednesday
The Union Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its regular monthly board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Ag Service Center, 10507 N. McAlister Road, to discuss conservation projects and monthly business.
Imbler School Board to meet Monday
IMBLER — The Imbler School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Room 1 of the high school. A maintenance and transportation report will be given.
NARVRE meeting set Wednesday
A National Association of Railroad Veterans and Retired Employees meeting will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cook Memorial Library.
Roast pork featured for senior meal
UNION — Senior meal will be noon Tuesday at the Union United Methodist Church. On the menu is a roast pork dinner.
