Look for more content in new Observer

The Observer will be introducing new features and other improvements in the next few weeks that I hope you’ll enjoy. The changes are designed to make your Observer a better newspaper.

Readers in Union and Wallowa counties have always relied on The Observer for the best coverage of local news, sports and entertainment and our commitment will not change when we switch publication days to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning June 4.

In fact, my job is to make sure you get more local news in The Observer three days a week than you do now in five. And that’s not all.

The new Observer will be beefier and sport a fresher, cleaner look. It will be color-coded to help you navigate three or more sections per day. That’s up from the two sections per day we print now.

And the new Observer will have more content for you to read.

---- We’re adding a Home & Living section featuring food recipes and gardening and home improvement tips.

---- We’re adding a Coffee Break page with Dear Abby’s advice column, slices of the oddities of life called News of the Weird, and an expanded color weather report.

---- We’re adding Wonderword to our puzzles and comics page and we’re expanding our classified section to include Union, Wallowa and Baker counties.

---- We’re expanding our Go! magazine and adding a new pullout guide to the best of the week’s entertainment. To make room for more arts and entertainment news, we will remove the TV program listings from Go! and instead will print a pullout TV guide on Fridays.

The new Observer will continue to have a very local A section full of local stories and news briefs, the public safety report, obituaries, and an Opinion page with local editorials and letters to the editor.

The new Observer will have a themed, regional B section --- Home&Living on Mondays; Biz&Ag Life on Wednesdays; and Health&Fitness on Fridays.

And the new Observer will have C sections --- SportsMonday on Mondays; Go! on Wednesdays; and Outdoors on Fridays.

You’ll notice the greater heft when you pick up your new and improved Observer and find it takes you longer to read it. That’s because the Observer will be bigger and better.
