MORAINE RIDE TO BENEFIT SCHOOLS
JOSEPH The Wallowa County Board of Realtors is organizing a benefit poker ride and hike Saturday on the Wallowa Lake moraine. The event will benefit local schools.
Profits from the event will be divided among the Wallowa, Enterprise and Joseph schools to help offset forced budget cuts.
Riders and hikers will enjoy a panoramic view including Wallowa Lake. The route takes about three hours at a walking pace.
Along the way, participants will pick up poker cards one at a time. The best poker hand at 4 p.m. wins $150. Other poker hands will also be eligible for prizes.
Overnight camping is available at no charge at the Joseph rodeo grounds, and horses may be kept overnight Friday at the corrals and tie stalls on the rodeo grounds.
The fee is $20 per person or $8 for non-players under 13. Commemorative T-shirts can be ordered for $13.
The day begins with a 7 to 10 a.m. breakfast at the rodeo grounds. Riders and hikers will depart beginning at 8 a.m. and they can return to the rodeo grounds for a barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Games and challenges will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m., and a raffle drawing will be at 4 p.m.
Participants will be required to sign a form that releases the event's sponsors from liability.
To obtain a registration form, or for information, call Dan Holub at 432-2771 or Michelle Baird at 432-7653. Forms are also available at all Wallowa County Realtors and other businesses.
