MUSIC FEST OPENS FRIDAY

Union County is about to be home to the first annual Spring Music and Dance Festival.

The Northeast Oregon Folklore Society will host the festival beginning Friday and running through Sunday. A welcoming dinner will begin at 6 Friday after a 5 p.m. check-in at the parish hall of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1002 L Ave.

The registration fee, which includes meals Saturday and breakfast Sunday, is $50 for adults, $40 for high school and college students and $25 for children.

Then at 8 p.m., the Mill Creek String Band and the Blue Mountain Barn Cats will get down to the business of providing music for a contra-dance. Lane Schulz, Larry B. Smith and Penn Fix will call the dances and child care will be available in the parish hall classrooms.

Breakfast on Saturday will be from 8 to 9 a.m. at the church, followed by a workshop from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in English country dance with Larry B. Smith and the Blue Mountain Barn Cats. Children's activities are planned for the downstairs classrooms.

At the same time Lane Schulz will be teaching Dances of Universal Peace at The Olde Meeting House, 901 M Ave.

Both venues will continue with workshops until noon with Penn Fix and the Mill Creek String Band at Our Lady of the Valley giving a contra-dance workshop, and three musicians giving Music Work- shops I for specific instruments at The Olde Meeting House.

Other workshops, dances and meals will continue throughout the weekend. Check Friday's Show & Tel for more information.
