Man arrested in stockshow incident
The Union County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in connection to an incident in which a 22-year-old man was seriously injured June 7.
Deputies located the truck and the driver allegedly involved in the injury of an Echo man during the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show weekend on Sunday. Mathew D. Price, 31, Island City, was arrested on charges of failure to perform duties of a driver (felony "hit and run"), reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
He was lodged in the Union County Correctional Facility on $20,000 bail.
Sheriff's officials said the investigation was facilitated by citizens who came forward to provide information to deputies, and by surveillance camera footage from several sources that gave a clear view of the truck involved. UCSO has declined to name the victim, who came out of a coma late last week.
Officials said last week that they believe the victim was in the bed of the pickup, possibly with others, when the driver allegedly accelerated to a high rate of speed and knocked the man from the truck.
