Meet, greet new forest supervisor this week
Kevin Martin, the man recently named supervisor of the Wallowa Whitman National Forest, plans meet-and-greet sessions in Wallowa, Union and Baker counties this week.
Last week, Pacific Northwest Regional Forester Ken Connaughton said Martin, supervisor of the Umatilla National Forest, will be the WWNF supervisor until further notice. A Fort Dodge, Iowa, native, Martin is a graduate of both Iowa State University and Oregon State University, and has served as the Umatilla National Forest supervisor the last eight years. He has degrees in animal ecology, entomology and wildlife science.
The opening meet-and greet event is slated from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cloverleaf Hall, 600 NW First St. in Enterprise. Wednesday’s session takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the La Grande Ranger District, 3502 Highway 30 in
“I look forward to meeting the folks in the communities surrounding the Wallowa-Whitman and hope they find the time to join me for coffee, cookies and conversation about their interests regarding our national forest,” Martin said.
Martin replaces Supervisor Monica Schwalbach, who has taken a new assignment with the Pacific Northwest Research Station in Portland. Schwalbach stepped in as the WWNF supervisor in April 2011.
