Memorial fund for family set up for funeral costs
A Union County Search and Rescue team located the body of a missing woman Thursday morning in the Grande Ronde River.
La Grande Police said Mandy Nadeau, 37, was reported missing Wednesday night from her home in the 3300 block of N. Alder Street.
Lt. Derick Reddington said the search and rescue team discovered her body around 8:30 a.m. Thursday about one-half mile upriver from her home.
Reddington said preliminary results of the investigation indicate there was no foul play involved in her death.
Nadeau’s sister, Shontel Krantz, said Nadeau had a seizure disorder and left her home disoriented and without anything.
“No coat, no medicine, no phone, no purse,” Krantz said.
At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, when Krantz was informed Nadeau had still not been found, she got a sinking feeling.
“I think I knew in my gut something was wrong,” Krantz said.
Nadeau was the oldest of seven sisters. She leaves behind a husband and three children.
“She’d give the shirt off her back to anyone,” her sister said. “She struggled all the time and was so strong.”
Krantz said Nadeau’s husband, Seth, faces health problems as well, and that they leaned on each other for strength.
“They are soul mates,” Krantz said.
Krantz recalled that her sister loved having her family come to her home for holidays, even if her house wasn’t the biggest or the nicest.
“Her smile would just light up a room,” she said.
