Many people in Northeast Oregon spent the weekend relaxing in the sun.
Not Melody Mai of La Grande, a member of the Union County Fair Board. Mai is a among a core of dedicated volunteers who worked intensely throughout the weekend to get the fairgrounds ready for the opening of the Union County Fair, which starts Wednesday.
“We are working feverishly but with a smile,” Mai said on Sunday. “We like what we do. We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t.”
The work of the fair’s many volunteers over the past year is again paying dividends. The fairgrounds look lush and green, sporting a number of new features, and the fair’s activity and entertainment lineup looks promising.
