No councilors quit in Island City
|
ISLAND CITY — The Island City City Council emerged intact after its meeting Monday, with no councilors resigning in protest of state ethics reporting requirements. The requirements, which were added to the Oregon Ethics Law last year, have sparked numerous protest resignations in Northeast Oregon cities including Enterprise, Elgin, Summerville, North Powder and Imbler. City councilors and planning commissioners in those communities quit their positions because they believe the reporting requirements are an invasion of privacy. But during Island City’s regular session Monday, discussion of the issue was brief and devoid of contention. It was noted that all the city councilors except Kevin Hampton had filed the required Statements of Economic Interest under the April 15 deadline. Hampton said he did not know he was required to file. He said he did not think he received a form in the mail, and was going to check on it when he got home. |
