Emergency workers respond Tuesday afternoon to an accident in the La Grande Town Center parking lot involving this 2006 Ford Mustang that hit two unoccupied parked vehicles. The Mustang and a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup, one of the vehicles hit, had to be towed from the scene. - The Observer/DICK MASON Nobody was injured but two vehicles were seriously damaged in a high-speed accident at the La Grande Town Center parking lot late Tuesday afternoon.
The mishap occurred sometime between 4 and 4:15 p.m. when a 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Francis Miller, 63, 2001 East N Ave., crashed into the sides of two unoccupied parked vehicles.
The automobiles, a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup and a Ford Windstar LX van, were parked west of the old Sterling Savings Bank building, which is south of Albertsons. The impact of the crash bumped the pickup over a curb and up to the sidewalk along Island Avenue.
After smashing the pickup the Mustang hit the Windstar LX van parked next to it. The Mustang and pickup were so badly damaged they had to be towed. The van, though badly dented on its passenger side, could still be driven, said Scott Whittington, a senior officer with La Grande Police Department.
Miller, who was driving alone, was wearing a seat belt. His vehicle’s air bag deployed in the mishap. The accident occurred after Miller got into his vehicle while parked next to Albertsons. He told police he does not remember what happened after he got into his car.
Miller’s vehicle first traveled about 300 feet to a curb, which it jumped. It then went about another 60 feet before colliding with the two parked vehicles. No citations were issued for the accident, which is under investigation, Whittington said.
