No major injuries reported with Friday morning crashes
At about milepost 270, an SUV overturned after hitting an embankment.
The driver of the SUV, Mandy Roberts, said she hit ice and saw another vehicle pulled over. In an effort to avoid hitting that car, the SUV began sliding.
“I’ve spun before, but I’ve never flipped,” Roberts said.
Roberts was driving herself and several other students back to school at Brigham Young University-Idaho Rexburg, Idaho.
“All of us have school Monday,” she said, noting some were concerned about getting back as they unloaded what they could from Roberts’ SUV.
It is unclear whether two other vehicles pulled over near the crash were hit.
A concerned truck driver saw the scene and decided to pull over.
“I’m concerned about fire, so I have my fire extinguisher,” said Paul D. Gear. He also got out his reflective triangles so drivers would have some advanced warning of the accident scene, which was located around a curve.
Oregon State Police and emergency responders with La Grande Rural Fire Department responded.
The crash was one of many reported Friday morning along I-84. At the time TripCheck.com was reporting spots of ice in the area. No major injuries were reported with the crashes.
