OTEC to turn off power for about 30 minutes Monday

Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative has announced that consumers in northwest La Grande, Perry, Hilgard and Starkey will be without power for approximately 30 minutes on Monday.

The planned power outage will begin at approximately 10 a.m. in order to move a house at 1407 S Ave. to its destination at 607 Palmer Ave.

OTEC crews will need to shut off a power circuit for safety reasons during the move when the house will come too near to power lines. OTEC customers between Spruce and Harrison streets and between S and Lake avenues in La Grande, as well as the communities of Perry, Hilgard and Starkey, will be affected by the planned outage.

“We regret having to shut off power for this approximate half hour, however, it’s the safest way to handle the house move where power lines make may contact with the home during the move,” said

Bill Nielson, OTEC superintendent for the La Grande district.
