Rob bank, go directly to jail.

The outcome was fairly straightforward Tuesday for an Elgin woman who police say made an unauthorized withdrawal from the La Grande branch of Pioneer Bank.

Jessica Lorraine Shaner, 26, Elgin, was arrested on charges of second-degree robbery and first-degree theft after police responded to a 911 call at 11:16 a.m. from a teller at the Adams Avenue branch.

Shaner was stopped by police about a block from the bank.

According to police reports eight officers, at least, including five La Grande police officers and three county deputies, responded.

La Grande Police Lt. Derick Reddington said police were told by a teller that Shaner never revealed a weapon, but left the bank with more than $2,000.

Shaner, who reportedly moved to the Thompson Road area of Elgin a few months ago, was apprehended and taken to the county jail where her backpack was searched.

Union County District Attorney Russ West said Shaner is expected to be arraigned in court this afternoon. He added that a Union County grand jury will investigate the crime today.

The Union County District Attorneys Office will prosecute Shaner, as the U.S. Attorneys Office has declined to handle the case.

Second-degree robbery is a Measure 11 crime, West said this morning, and if Shaner is found guilty she could face a 70-month sentence with no early parole

The robbery investigation is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact La Grande Police Detective Gary Welberg at 963-1017.
