For the past 10 years, the Rita S. Monahan Scholarship Walk-A-Thon has been helping nursing students achieve their goals while remembering a respected member of the Oregon Health and Science University faculty.

On May 10, participants will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the walk-a-thon by lacing up their sneakers to raise money for the fund established by Greg Monahan, professor of history at Eastern Oregon University, in honor of his late wife, Rita Monahan.

The fund established in her name with the EOU Foundation is dedicated to helping OHSU nursing students pay for expensive state board exams. Numerous students have benefited from the award.

Monahan was an associate professor of nursing, specializing in adult health and illness. Her service to students at OHSU’s School of Nursing in La Grande spanned well more than a decade.

The walk-a-thon starts at 10 a.m. on the EOU track, and all are welcome to participate. The event is limited to seven miles so sponsors can know the maximum amount of their donation.

Sponsorship forms are available at the EOU Bookstore, Pierce Library, the OHSU School of Nursing Office in Badgley Hall and Sunflower Books.
