Police respond to two crashes

Motor vehicle accidents occur near Imbler and in Ladd Canyon

A single-vehicle accident two miles south of Imbler on Highway 82 left two people injured Saturday morning.

The accident, reported at 5:53 a.m., involved two men in their early 20s in a pickup traveling north. The vehicle’s  passenger, who is 23, was ejected from the pickup and suffered a head injury, according to Jim Voelz, a Union County Sheriff’s Department deputy.

The driver of the vehicle was sent by Life Flight to a hospital in Walla Walla, Wash.

The driver was transported to Grande Ronde Hospital by La Grande Fire and Ambulance.

A rescue team from La Grande Rural Fire was also called to the accident. The team had Jaws of Life equipment but it was not needed to remove the driver from the pickup.

The names of the two men injured in the accident  have not been released.

The Oregon State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

The motor vehicle accident near Imbler was one of two in Union County on Saturday.

There were no injuries in a second crash, which involved a semi-truck transporting a shipment of limes.

The accident occurred on Interstate 84 in Ladd Canyon about four miles southeast of Ladd Creek. The truck, which had no passengers, rolled on a curve but the driver was not injured.

“He was out walking when we arrived,’’ said Larry Wooldridge, chief of the La Grande Fire Rural Fire Department.

Wooldridge said the semi-truck drifted off the road and the driver tried to correct the vehicle, causing it to roll.

La Grande Fire and Ambulance was also called to the accident.

The driver of the truck had been westbound heading toward La Grande when the crash occurred.
