Police shoot, kill LG man in Pendleton

PENDLETON — A  La Grande man was fatally shot by a Pendleton police officer after an armed confrontation just after noon Thursday in Pendleton.

Police say the man, Deveron W. Schreiner, 38, was armed with a semi-automatic handgun during the incident. He died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation, pursuant to the recently created Umatilla County Deadly Physical Force Plan.

Assisting in the investigation are elements of the Major Crimes Team, including personnel from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Pendleton Police Department, Hermiston Police Department, Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory, and Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office.

No other details were available at press time.
