Police use Taser to subdue Umatilla man

Oregon State Police used a Taser on a man early Sunday morning in Island City to make an arrest.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, two OSP troopers stopped a vehicle that had earlier been seen by a trooper who ran a check in his patrol car to determine that the registered owner of the vehicle was Daryl Frederickson, 35, of Umatilla who was wanted on four outstanding warrants.

According to OSP reports, that trooper lost sight of the vehicle, but later located it and stopped it. Then the driver was positively identified as the wanted felon. When the troopers initiated the stop at gunpoint, Frederickson got out of his vehicle and refused to obey the troopers' orders, according to the OSP. A Taser was deployed twice against the subject, who had verbally threatened the troopers. After the second Taster deployment and a brief struggle, Frederickson was taken into custody.

Frederickson was charged locally with resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer and misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot. He was lodged at the Union County Correctional Facility on those charges, plus the warrants for which he was wanted. Three of those were Union County warrants charging unlawful possession and delivery of methamphetamine, and two separate counts of failure to appear on a charge of second-degree theft. The fourth warrant was issued by Hermiston Municipal Court charging contempt of court for failure to appear on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
