The La Grande Lions Club and the City of La Grande Parks and Recreation broke ground at Birnie Park recently for the arrival of a new restroom facility.
The City of La Grande Parks Department dug trenches the week of Sept. 29. Upgrades in electrical service by Oregon Trail Electric Consumers Cooperative and Ladco Electric began work this week.
The preparation is expected to be completed just in time for the building’s arrival in two weeks.
The building being sited is the Cortez model, an economical double flush building that meets ADA requirements.
It has a small overall footprint and is designed to withstand 120-mph wind load with a 250 square foot snow load. The building is being built by CXT Precast Buildings out of Spokane.
This community project was made possible by grant, cash and work-in-kind donations. A sponsor board will be installed at the restroom site recognizing the many organizations and individuals who helped make the project possible.
The project is the second major improvement to Birnie Park in the last couple of years. In a Lions project in 2006, new playground equipment was installed.
