ENTERPRISE — A Portland man broke a leg as he slipped and fell down a snow field near Glacier Pass high in the Blue Mountains.

He was flown by Life Flight to a Boise hospital after being rescued.

Dustin Nicholson, 23, had the accident about 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the Wallowa County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit. He became the focus of S&R efforts on Friday after a fellow hiker, Rick Jackson, made a 911 call about 8 a.m. that day.

Glacier Pass, in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, is less than two air miles from 9,595-foot high Eagle Cap just north of the Union County border.
