SUSPECT IN CHASE CHARGED

The 23-year-old man who is alleged to have fired shots at Union County Sheriff Steve Oliver during a high-speed chase along Interstate 84 Tuesday afternoon has been charged with attempted aggravated murder, theft and other charges.

Roy Scott Fritts was taken Wednesday to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland by deputies to have his facial fractures evaluated. He has been returned to the Union County jail.

Fritts has been charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder, first-degree theft, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, recklessly endangering another person, and pointing a firearm at another person.

In addition to local charges, Fritts was also arrested Thursday and charged via a warrant from the Overton County (Tenn.) Sheriffs Office that charged him with escape.

Fritts originally gave the name Alex X. Davenport to officers. Fingerprints clarified his identity Wednesday, even as deputies and Oregon State Police were trying to determine where guns and jewelry found in his possession had originated.
