Budget committee proposes nearly $1.8 million increase for coming school year
Instead of cutting back, the La Grande School District is planning to add back in 2014-15.
The La Grande School District, which has had to make major cutbacks since 2008 because of budget shortfalls, is proposing that a general fund budget nearly $1.8 million greater than its present year budget be adopted for 2014-15. The $19.237 million spending plan, presented to the school district’s budget committee Wednesday, would add back many positions the district was forced to cut in recent years.
The district's budget is projected to be up 9.2 percent in 2014-15 because of additional funding it is expecting from the state due in part to an improving economy.
