Sen. Merkley slates town hall meetings

La Grande, 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Senior Center
Enterprise, 7 p.m. Thursday, Cloverleaf Hall

For the second time in less than a week, Union County and Wallowa County residents have a chance to meet with a U.S. senator in a town hall meeting.

Thursday, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore) will hold meetings in Enterprise and La Grande. Merkley’s visits closely follow town halls convened in Enterprise and La Grande last Friday by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore).

Merkley’s La Grande town hall is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 Albany St. The Enterprise event is slated for 7 p.m. at Cloverleaf Hall, 668 NW First St.

Merkley said he will update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C., and answer questions about challenges facing Oregon and America.

“Advocating for Oregonians is my number one responsibility,” he said. “I invite all Oregonians to meet me and discuss what we need to do to get our nation back on track.”

After his election last year, Merkley said he would follow Wyden’s lead by holding town halls in each of Oregon’s 36 counties every year.

He held his first town hall in February in his native county, Douglas County, and his 25th town hall of the year in Jefferson County last month.

In addition to Union and Wallowa counties, he is holding town halls this week in  Deschutes, Crook, Wheeler, Morrow, Baker, Malheur, Grant, Harney and Lake counties.

The Baker County town hall is scheduled 11 a.m. Friday at the Baker City Armory, 1640 Campbell St. in Baker City.
