Shelter: We will sue the county
Union County served with papers Thursday afternoon
Shelter From the Storm intends to file a lawsuit against Union County.
The county was served Thursday afternoon with papers notifying the county of Shelter From the Storm’s intent to file a claim against the county.
According to a letter served by Shelter’s attorney, George Galloway, the claim stems from the county’s April 1, 2014, order requiring Shelter From the Storm to vacate its building at 1111 Fifth St. by Sept. 1.
“Among other violations, the County has failed to adequately consider the adverse consequences of the proposed displacement on SFS, failed to plan the new court house in a way that would minimize the adverse impacts on SFS and failed to offer meaningful relocation assistance to SFS," the letter says.
