JOSEPH — A Joseph man was killed in a snowmobile accident Friday on upper Ski Run Road. Olin Peach, 76, died at the scene of the mishap, Sheriff Fred Steen said. Peach was riding the snowmobile Friday afternoon near his home and was expected for a visit at a friend’s house, Steen said. When Peach did not arrive, the friends contacted Peach’s neighbors, the Baileys, to see if they could locate him. The Baileys heard what they thought was a chainsaw and followed the noise to where Peach was stuck under his snowmobile, which was still running, Steen said. The Baileys determined Peach was dead at the scene and contacted Wallowa County Dispatch. In the winter Peach used a snowmobile to access his cabin from Ski Run Road, which is set back from the road, Steen said. The Ski Run Road property was a vacation cabin for Peach, who was a retired history teacher. He taught at Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Wash. The academy is a Seventh-day Adventist boarding high school. An Olin Peach Memorial Scholarship has been created at the academy.
