TANKER WAS DUE IN LA GRANDE ON JUNE 28
The C-130 air tanker that crashed and the crew that perished Monday were scheduled to arrive in La Grande June 28.
According to information from airtanker.com, the crew of three, Capt. Steve Wass, right seat Craig LaBare and engineer Mike Davis were killed in the crash near Walker, Calif.
Doug Yearous, manager of the Union County Airport, said Monday night that Davis has spent several summers flying air tankers from the county's airport. Yearous said that Davis and his wife spent the summers in a camper parked at the airport.
The C-130 Hercules transport was contracted from Hawkins and Powers Aviation Inc., based in Greybull, Wyo.
A DC-4 tanker from Butler Aviation in Redmond will arrive in La Grande July 14.
