Eighth-graders from Elgin, Imbler, Cove and Union load a bus Friday morning in La Grande for the first leg of their hard-won trip to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York. One mother, Gwen Billings of Cove, said shes excited that the children have the opportunity to see things in person that theyve only seen on television. For the Imbler-Elgin students, the last three months have been a lesson in recovery from a theft of much of their trip funds and what determination to achieve a goal can accomplish. Billings daughter, Beth, adds that she is looking forward to visiting Ground Zero in New York City and Arlington National Cemetery.
